Meet Ryan Gilbert

Ryan suffered a variety of injuries from abuse, including a broken arm as a baby. Ryan and his siblings ended up in the foster care system when the adults meant to raise him failed.</h4>Ryan spent years living with foster families and in and out of youth homes. Separated from his siblings, Ryan was fighting even then against the system he saw was failing him and his family. Ryan and his siblings were finally adopted by a family in the small town of LeRoy, Kansas.&nbsp; Life was not all dark, and Ryan fought every day to find joy and happiness. Ryan's natural inquisitiveness made him a great student, prompting Duke University to invite him to take the ACT as a middle schooler. Ryan loved playing sports. His passion for football made him a ferocious linebacker leading to a scholarship to play football at Fort Scott Community College. Injuries, however, took their toll, and he gave up his football career, transferring as an undergrad to Washburn University.Ryan's dream was to one day become a lawyer, but life had other plans. Ryan ended his undergrad studies to raise a family. Ryan raised his two beautiful daughters as a single dad after a divorce while maintaining a quality co-parenting relationship with his children's mother. Caring for his children is what drives everything that Ryan does, and is evident in how hard he works to provide for them.<h2>Professional Career</h2><h3>Ryan obtained a degree in power plant technology.</h3><h4>Ryan's work ethic landed him in jobs building homes and working construction, which led to finding employment as a nuclear power plant operator at Wolf Creek. Ryan worked 60 hours a week while obtaining his associates degree in power plant technology.</h4>Ryan 's career at Wolf Creek and later at EMP Shield gives him a unique perspective on renewable energy and ways to improve our electrical grid. His clear thinking and strong work ethic caused him to get promoted quickly wherever he went. He also wasn't afraid to push back and challenge policies and work environments when he found them to be lacking. This didn't always sit well with his employers, but Ryan was determined to fight for what he believed was right. Eventually, Ryan shifted gears and began a career as a legal assistant at a large Midwest family law firm. This set him on the course to achieve success managing a law firm.Prior to running for Congress, Ryan teamed up with his best friend, who is an attorney, to start Thompson Family Law, LLC. The goal of the firm was to help families and children through some of life's most difficult, stressful times. Ryan's experiences in the foster care system led him to this calling. He knew then that he was being called to take action. The lives of his children, his country, and his family were too important to allow him to sit silently by while our democracy was shredded.&nbsp;Especially as Ron Estes offered no fight to protect us at all.</h4>On October 16, 2025 Ryan officially declared his candidacy for Congress.&nbsp;Ryan counts among his heroes Dwight D. Eisenhower and Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Eisenhower, a fellow Kansan, stepped up to fight the fascists in Nazi Germany, going on to become one of America’s great Presidents. Ike’s courage and common sense helped him to act to save Americans when it mattered most. FDR’s sweeping reforms to put the country to work, pulling it out of the great depression, are a legacy that helped turn the tide of the country. It is that same kind of strong, activist government that Ryan believes can help pull America forward and into a country that works for us, not against us.Ryan knows first hand what it means to take on a government that’s fighting its citizens rather than lifting them up. His personal experiences in the foster care system, and his work trying every day to provide for his family, taught him how tough America can be on the ones it is supposed to help most. Despite all this, Ryan also knows what makes America already great: everyone has a chance to put their mark on this country, and lift others up. It is his hope to do exactly that in office. For all of us.

It is time for the United States to remove marijuana from the drug wars. Several states have taken responsible approaches to legalizing the drug. 40 states now allow medical use and 24 have legalized recreational use. There's no reason why it should remain a federal crime. The legalization of marijuana leads to tax revenue and jobs for our communities.

An outdated VA has made helping veterans near impossible. We need to increase funding to the VA because it is understaffed and under-resourced. Expanding Veteran benefits to allow them a greater selection of doctors is also needed. They didn't get to choose where they were deployed, they deserve the ability to choose where they go to the doctor.

Kansas farmers are bearing the burden of tariffs on imports and exports. This bad economic policy cuts into farmers profits and leaves farmers with a surplus and no market. This policy should be rejected by the Congress. We also need to encourage Community Supported Agriculture programs to expand the local markets. Farmers are the backbone of Kansas, we cannot let them fail.

Ryan Gilbert became the first Democratic candidate to file to challenge incumbent Ron Estes for the Fourth District Congressional District in Kansas. "Kansans are tired of politics as usual. We need a Congressman who is fighting for solutions for everyday Kansans. That's why I'm running for Congress. I know what is means to see costs soar for my family while wages stay stagnant. It's my mission to change this and make life affordable for every Kansan," said Gilbert.

The Government has no business telling anyone what they can do with their body, or whom they can marry. Every individual should be able to work with their doctor to determine what the best medical treatment is for them. Whether its gender affirming care or reproductive rights, they are all human rights deserving of dignity and autonomy safe from an overreaching federal government.

Expanding Medicaid is critical to our rural communities surviving here in Kansas. It also would improve the quality of life for all Kansans. We must fund the expansion of medicaid if we are going to reduce poverty and protect our vulnerable populations. We also need a single payer healthcare system that provides care for everyone, regardless of their income levels.

I am a proud gun owner, and will always protect the right to bear arms. With great fire power comes great responsibility, and every sensible gun owner knows this. Licensing of weapons and a national database, are just some of the common sense gun solutions we can put to work for us and keep our kids safe.

Large corporate landlords are driving up rent for everyday Kansans. I intend to introduce legislation to cap rent increases for these landlords and provide financial assistance for those facing evictions and arrears.

Ryan Gilbert joined several curb warriors on Saturday in Wichita, Kansas to protest the U.S. action in Venezuela. "The United States used to be the country that would protect people from what the United States is doing currently. We need our government to fight for us and they're just not. We deserve so much more. It's time for a change," said Gilbert.

I am committed to restoring travel efficiency and lowering the cost of travel for Kansas families. There is no reason why high speed rail cannot be in Kansas, and revolutionize how we get around our state and the country. Imagine being able to take a high speed train from Wichita to Kansas City to see the Chiefs play in a brand new stadium. I intend to revolutionize the way we travel.

As a man I don't believe I should have a say in women's health and the choices they make. Freedom of choice is an important cornerstone of our democracy. I believe my daughters deserve a choice in their healthcare. Members of my campaign worked for Dr. Tiller before he tragically lost his life. The least we can do is fight to restore reproductive freedom.

Renewable energy doesn't have to clash with private property rights. Landowners deserve to use their land however they choose, whether it be for a mineral lease or a turbine. We have to balance this with protecting our nation's cropland. I plan to invest in urban location of renewable energy sources such as solar to make the best use of our preexisting resources.

The housing boom shouldn't just be for the ultra rich. We deserve funding that will create housing for the low income among us. This funding will also provide jobs for people who want to live in the property. Helping to build a home or promising to take care of it gives everyone the dignity they deserve.

Affordable Housing

Ryan supports taxing millionaires at a rate over 50% and billionaires at a rate over 90%. There is no reason billionaires should exist.
