Ryan Gilbert Suspends Campaign, Endorses Katy Tyndell

WICHITA, Ks., July 16, 2026

“It is with great sadness that I suspend my campaign for Congress,” stated Congressional Candidate Ryan Gilbert, a Democrat from Wichita. “Due to personal family medical issues and other concerns, I have to step down from actively campaigning. As I said on the campaign trail, however, if plan A doesn’t work, then we move on to plan B. I will be pivoting to make sure that progressive candidates on the ballot get elected, not only in this upcoming primary but in November’s general election. More details will be coming soon about how I plan to do that.”

Gilbert continued, “This election is too important to not give my supporters my thoughts on the remaining candidates in the race for the Democratic Nomination in the Fourth District. That is why I am endorsing Katy Tyndell for Congress. Katy’s family has been in Kansas for five generations, and she has raised her children here. She understands the burden everyday Kansas families face and appreciates the progressive policies I’m pushing, while we may disagree at times on some of those. I couldn’t step away if I didn’t think there was going to be someone who could step in and fight for those concerns. That’s who Katy is. It’s also extremely important to me that she would be the first woman elected to Congress from this district in Kansas, if she wins. I want my daughters to see a leader like Katy succeed, and prove that women belong in the highest levels of leadership.”

Ryan’s campaign generated great enthusiasm among progressive voters, his views on social media reaching more than a million views a month from people all across this state and this nation. State Democratic Party Chair Jeanna Repass stated, “We love Ryan. We’re so thankful that he ran this campaign, and we’re excited to see him back on the ballot in the future!”

Ryan held fast to his decision to not seek donations in the primary, trying to run a campaign that removed money from politics. “It is more important than ever, with the recent Supreme Court decisions, that we work to remove money from politics. If we don’t, middle class Americans will never be able to run for federal offices, or otherwise, as they’ll be held down by the rich. I believe in policies that help the average Kansan: raising the minimum wage, ending corporate subsidies, and pushing to tax the rich. I will continue to fight for these policies in everything I do.”
